The Palani Murugan Temple atop Palani Hills is one of the six abodes (Arupadai Veedu) of Lord Murugan (Kartikeya). The deity Dhandayuthapani is depicted as an ascetic with a staff.

Significance

The idol is made of an amalgam of nine minerals (Navabashanam) by Siddhar Bogar. The Thaipusam and Panguni Uthiram festivals draw massive crowds. It is one of the richest temples in Tamil Nadu.
